How to Become a Certified Nurse Assistant.
To qualify for enrollment in a Certified Nurse Assistant course, you must have a high school diploma. The training program usually covers eighty to one hundred fifty hours of lecture and clinical. You also need to pass a CNA certification exam after the training and then register with the state once you pass your exam. As a CNA, you will be entrusted with tasks such as:
- ADL Assistance (bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, etc.)
- Vital signs monitoring
- Pre-Surgery preparation
- Checking catheters and emptying them as needed or when directed by the RN
- Administering prescribed medication
- Assisting with medical procedures alongside nurses and physicians
- Keep track of the patient’s health status and reporting any significant changes to the doctor or nurse
- Keeping the patient’s room clean and tidy
- Preparing medical equipment for the patient
Requirements
In procuring a nursing assistant job, CNA’s need to have at least a high school diploma or GED, and relatively some form of post-secondary nursing instruction. Other qualifications and requirements include:
- Social Security Service and Driver’s License
- TB Test
- CPR Certification
- At least 16 years old
